When your teacher hands you the Disclosure Form, you will be filling in facts you already recorded instead of trying to reconstruct three months of work from memory.

Where the Line Actually Sits

CXC's language names specific permitted uses: understanding concepts, brainstorming ideas, explaining difficult terms, and generating structural suggestions. It names one clear violation: a submission generated wholly or significantly by AI. Most of the space between those two poles is where actual students actually work, and it is worth being concrete about what sits where.

Asking an AI tool to explain a research method before you design your own experiment sits on the permitted side. Asking it to draft your literature review and submitting that draft with light edits does not, and it needs disclosure either way. Asking AI to check whether your data analysis makes sense, after you ran the numbers yourself, sits on the permitted side. Asking AI to invent findings for data you never collected is not a grey area at all; that was never allowed under any policy, AI or otherwise.

Violations are handled through CXC's existing irregularities procedure, which involves the candidate, the teacher, and the school principal together, not a single administrator acting alone on a detector's output. That is consistent with the human-judgment principle running through the whole policy.

The line looks slightly different by subject, too. A CSEC Geography SBA built around a fieldwork survey is judged partly on data you actually collected in a real place. AI helping you interpret a rainfall pattern or structure a report is very different from AI inventing survey responses you never gathered. A CAPE Caribbean Studies Internal Assessment, worth up to 40% of the final grade, rewards an argument built on sources you have actually read. AI can help you find and summarise those sources faster. It cannot read them and form the argument for you, because the argument is the thing being graded.

Why This Is Landing Now

The timing is not random. CXC's own review of School-Based Assessments has been running for over a year, and concerns about AI use in SBAs have been building publicly since at least early 2026.
