โœ‹ Lesson 2 of 7 ยท Plan it!

The 5-Finger Plan

๐Ÿ•’ About 15 minutes โœ๏ธ Your drawing from Lesson 1 ๐Ÿช„ You will write magic words!

Real app designers NEVER start with the computer. They start with a plan. Your plan fits on one hand: five fingers, five steps. Today you finish fingers 1, 2, and 3, and get your magic words ready for build day.

Five fingers, five steps

Hold up your hand. Every finger is one step of making an app. Touch each finger and say its word!

THE 5-FINGER PLAN โœ‹ ๐Ÿ’š HEART who I help ๐Ÿ’ก DREAM my idea โœ๏ธ DRAW my screens ๐Ÿ—๏ธ BUILD with AI + grown-up ๐ŸŽ‰ SHOW my family! You already did HEART and DREAM in Lesson 1. High five!

Finger 3: DRAW your two screens

Your app needs just 2 screens to start. Draw 2 phone shapes on your paper:

  1. Screen 1: the hello screen. What does your person see first? Draw ONE big friendly button in the middle. What does the button say?
  2. Screen 2: the helping screen. What happens after the big button is tapped? This is where the helping happens. Draw it!
  3. Draw an arrow from the button on Screen 1 to Screen 2. That arrow is the whole journey of your app.
๐ŸŽจ Colour time

Pick 2 colours for your app. Just 2! One main colour (Zara picked leaf green, for plants) and one happy colour for buttons (she picked mango orange). Write them under your drawing. The AI will want to know.

Your magic wish words

On build day, your grown-up will type a wish to the AI. Big word alert: grown-ups call a wish like this a prompt. A good wish tells the AI 4 things:

MY WISH = WHO it helps + WHAT it does + my 2 SCREENS + my 2 COLOURS

Say your wish out loud while your grown-up writes it down on the paper. Here is Zara's, so you can see the shape:

๐Ÿช„ Zara's wish (a real prompt!)
Make an app that helps a granny remember to water her plants.

Screen 1: a big friendly hello with one big button that says "My Plants".
Screen 2: a list of plants with fun names I can add, and each plant shows which day to water it. Tapping a plant makes a happy "watered!" tick appear.

Colours: leaf green and mango orange. Big buttons and big letters, easy for a granny to read.
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Golden rule check

Did you spot it? Zara's wish says "a granny", NOT her granny's real name. Real names, school names, addresses, and phone numbers never go into the computer. Helpers do not need them!

Quick check!

Which wish gives the AI enough to build with?

Yes! It has WHO, WHAT, 2 SCREENS, and 2 COLOURS, and no private information. The second wish is too tiny for the AI to build from. The third one breaks the golden rule: never put real names, schools, or numbers into the computer!
