So, what is an AI helper?
An AI helper is a computer helper you can chat with by typing. It has read a huge amount of writing from books and websites, so it can explain things in easy words, give you lots of ideas, and help with money questions. Think of it like a very well-read helper who loves to explain. It is clever, but it is not a magic robot that knows everything, and it is not always right.
An AI helper, also called a chatbot, is a computer helper you chat with by typing. It has read a lot, so it can explain things, give ideas, and answer questions. It is helpful, but it can make mistakes, so it is not always right.
Meet three AI helpers
There are a few famous AI helpers, and they all work in a similar way: you type a question, and they type an answer back. Here are three your grown-up might know:
- ChatGPT (made by a company called OpenAI): one of the first famous AI helpers. A grown-up can open it at chatgpt.com โ
- Claude (made by a company called Anthropic): a friendly AI helper that likes to explain things clearly. A grown-up can open it at claude.ai โ
- Google Gemini (made by Google): the AI helper from the same company as the Google search you may have seen. A grown-up can open it at gemini.google.com โ
A grown-up can open any of these links in a web browser, then help you type your question. You do not need to pick a "best" one. They are all good at explaining and giving ideas. Always open them with a grown-up.
A prompt is the message or question you type to an AI helper. A clear prompt gets a better answer. For example: "Explain saving money to a 9 year old." The clearer you ask, the more helpful the answer.
Safety first: the most important part
AI helpers are fun, but they come with rules, just like crossing the road. Read this part slowly, out loud, with your grown-up.
- Always use an AI helper WITH a grown-up. This is rule number one. A grown-up sits with you and helps you type and read.
- An AI helper can sound very sure and still be wrong. It can make things up without meaning to. So check anything important with your grown-up, do not just believe it.
- NEVER type secrets to a chatbot. No full name, no home address, no school name, no passwords, no photos of yourself, and never a bank or card number. Those things stay private, with you and your grown-up.
What AI is great at, and what it is not
